Here are some tips to help you “talk” about real estate without ever talking about real estate.
This is easiest to do with someone you’ve just met. A simple question like “Do you live in the area?” can open the door to so many follow-ups, depending on their answer.
This is probably the most important part of the conversation. Genuinely listening allows you to respond sincerely. Make sure you illustrate this sincerity through tone, inflection, nodding your head, etc.
Are their arms crossed and stiff, or are they making wide gestures? Are they speaking with their eyes or just their mouth? Don’t underestimate the importance of nonverbal cues. There’s a reason people in the public eye receive professional training on this subject. If you are oblivious to these critical cues, you will blunder every conversation and become “that person.”
Think of this part as a dance. Some people really love to talk about themselves, so let them take the lead. Don’t interject forcibly – you could kill the conversation or worse, offend them. If you’re having trouble finding an opportunity to contribute, here’s a tip: It’s usually ok to interrupt these self-talkers if you’re asking them for their opinion.
It is a party, after all. Some of the best Realtors and networking gurus are the absolute life of every event they attend.

]]>Now, Facebook has released news of a great new feature: Facebook Gifts. This application allows you to select gifts for clients on facebook, add a personal message, and send. Your client will be notified instantly. Upon notification, they can enter their shipping information and swap size/color/flavor/etc. before the gift ships directly to them.
In addition to sending gifts, you can now “promote” posts on your business page using a convenient tab located on the bottom, right-hand side of your status update. When you click the tab, you’ll see a list of options:
Promote your post only to people who like your page, or
Promote your post to people who like your page and their friends.
You can then customize options with a budget as small as $5 – paid directly from your paypal account – that will keep your post at the top of everyone in the selected group’s newsfeeds for three days.
